Those of you who read my article where I compared 12ft vs 13ft rods notice that both types of fishing rods are two-piece rods. If you are new to fishing and you just started discovering, you may ask yourself “Why?“. Well, I suggest you spare 5 minutes of your time and you’ll learn. After you are done with my text, you’ll fully understand what is a 2 piece rod for carp fishing and why using a one-piece rod wouldn’t be a viable option.
Introduction to 2 Piece Rods
Multi piece rods in carp fishing have become standard and today we have rods with 4 rod sections. But both these and those with three sections are not as nearly as popular as the two-piece fishing rods.
Two pieces mean exactly that. Rods consist of two rod sections. Lower one, where you have a handle, reel seat, and the first line guide, and the upper one, where the rest of the guides and tip of the rod are. The upper section gets attached by putting the hollow part of it onto the top of the lower section which is not hollowed. These days, it’s mostly filled with graphite.
Once two sections are attached, they form a rod. The place where you attached them is called “blank”. 2-piece fishing rod blanks are known for their great strength which makes them perfect casting rods.
Benefits of Using a 2 Piece Rod for Carp Fishing
Convenience and Portability
Keep in mind that this type of carp rods was never meant to be used as a traveling rods. However, they are still pretty convenient to take on a road trip. The most common two piece carp rods are 12ft ones and their transport length is most commonly between 5.7ft and 5.9 ft.
Ease of Transportation
When the measurements above are taken into account, it’s safe to say these rods can fit in the majority of 4-door modern cars. Additionally, fishing bags designed for 2 piece versions of carp rods can be carried on the back or shoulder. That makes transportation even easier.
Of course, they’ll never be able to compare to actual 4-5 piece travel rods but keep in mind that carp rods made of multiple pieces wouldn’t be able to handle heavy action and casting weight as good as 2 piece rods do.
Flexibility and Versatility
Now I want to point out something. That is the fact that I use my 10ft carp rods for pike, walleye, bream, barbel, etc. Basically, anything that can be found in the Danube and Drava rivers. The reason for this is the extra strength 2 piece carp rods offer and ease of handling the 10ft version in a boat. Speaking of boats, go ahead and find out why is carp fishing from a boat so special.
All in all, these are excellent bait casting rods and I have yet to experience any limitations. So far, I was able to land some nicely sized fish without any problems.
Features of a 2 Piece Rod for Carp Fishing
Construction Materials Used for 2 Piece Rods
Advanced materials used for the construction of these rods are the same ones used for any other modern rod. Carbon fiber is used for the body and the blank, handles can be made of rubber, cork, EVA, or shrink tubes, while guides are mostly made out of SIC.
The combination of such quality materials guarantees your 2 piece casting rod will last long job done by it will be exceptional. So, always look for these when you are choosing a new rod.
Types of Actions Available
When it comes to rods action, there are various actions available to suit different fishing styles and preferences. Some rods may have a regular bending action that provides a consistent feel throughout the rod. Others may offer a stiffer action for specific angling needs. It’s essential to consider the type of action that best matches your fishing technique and the waters you’ll be fishing in.
Casting Weight Capacity of 2 Piece Rods
When it comes to casting weight capacity, the key is to choose a rod with the appropriate power and action rating for the size of fish you are targeting. Focusing solely on the number of pieces in the rod is not a good way of thinking. Ultimately, the casting weight capacity of a 2 piece rod can vary depending on the specific model and brand. It’s important to consider your individual needs and preferences when making a selection.
Sensitivity
When it comes to sensitivity, the number of rod pieces doesn’t necessarily determine how well you can feel bites. Other factors like the material of the rod and the type of fishing you’re doing play a bigger role in sensitivity. Whether you choose a one piece or a two piece rod, you can still have a sensitive fishing experience. Just pay attention to the rod material and use techniques like a bell to alert you to bites. Ultimately, the key is to choose a rod that feels comfortable and responsive, regardless of the number of pieces.
